Recently I spoke with an office volunteer who has been with us since February. When talking about what her volunteer experience has been like, she said that she really liked it and it was more enjoyable than she initially anticipated. She liked working alongside Staff, saying that were “fantastic.” In my time as Volunteer Coordinator at the Poverello Center I have interviewed numerous volunteers from varied backgrounds. People come to the Poverello Center to fill open time in their schedule, fulfill education requirements, to give back to the community, and to meet new people. They all say that they stay because of a sense of fulfillment they did not expect. There were deeper connections with clients and staff that they did not anticipate. The feelings of gratitude and thanks that were bestowed upon them, made the volunteers want to keep coming back.
Here at the Poverello Center we appreciate and support all of our volunteers. Anyone between the ages 10 and 110 can volunteer. We have a wide array of volunteer opportunities available; from working directly with people to working individually on projects. Without the help provided to the Poverello Center from volunteers, our shelter would not be able to serve the capacity that we do. So thank you! Thank you for filling our kitchen with sounds of laughter while you prep and serve. Thank you for positive attitude and cheerful spirit while you assist at our Front Desk. Thank you for enabling us to have a Food Pantry and Computer Lab. We value each and every one of you!
