A group of Missoula motorcycle enthusiasts are working on rebuilding a 1974 Kawasaki KZ400 motorcycle donated by a Poverello Center board member into a custom cafe racer / brat bike. Clark Industries and Harrison’s Auto Body have donated powder coating and painting for the bike and Mort Olson, a local custom motorcycle builder and Veteran, is taking the lead in putting it together. Many other local motorcycle enthusiasts are lending a hand to make this custom motorcycle a reality.
Over this summer the Poverello Center will be selling raffle tickets with the top prize being the custom Kawasaki. Proceeds for the raffle will go to support the Poverello Center’s services for Veterans experiencing homelessness. Each year the Poverello Center serves over 100 individual Veterans in our two transitional housing programs, Valor House and Housing Montana Heroes, as well as in the general emergency shelter. Veterans receive housing, food, as well as wrap around services including case management, therapy and housing navigation.
On average is cost about $15,000 to provide a Veteran experiencing homelessness with housing, food, and the wrap around services to make the transition from being homeless to having a permanent home. We can raise an enough money to house a veteran experiencing homelessness if we sell 750 raffle tickets at $20 a ticket.
Tickets will be on sale from June 14th until September 21st when the winning ticket will be drawn at Bayern Brewery’s Biketoberfest.
