If you’ve spent any time at all in the Pov in the last five years, you’ve probably seen Jim Thompson, one of the Pov’s most beloved volunteers, tucked behind the front desk, thumbing through a stack of mail or addressing donor thank you letters. If you have ever donated to the Poverello Center, it was Jim’s handwriting on the address to the thank you letter we sent you.
Today, the Pov is heartbroken as we learn of Jim’s passing. He was a beloved presence at the Poverello Center, but he also led a life of service long before moving to Missoula.
After retiring from a career in accounting, he began writing grants for Alabama Childhood Food Solutions. After four years of grant writing in exchange for groceries, Jim decided to move across the country, to Missoula, to be with his nephew. Jim began volunteering at the Pov through Easter Seals – Goodwill in 2016 and continued to volunteer until his passing.
We are so grateful to have known Jim and spent so much time with him over the past five years. He is a Poverello legend and is already deeply missed. The Pov sends our condolences to Jim’s family and friends, and we remember Jim as a joyful and genuine part of the Pov team.
