On December 8th, 2021, the Poverello Center entered into a contract to purchase the Clark Fork Inn Apartments at 1010 W. Broadway for the Housing Montana Heroes program.
Housing Montana Heroes is a transitional housing program for veterans experiencing houselessness, which has been located on the second floor of the Poverello Center West Broadway location since 2015. This program serves around 35 veterans each year.
This project was made possible because of a national Veterans Administration effort to shift houseless veteran services into settings separate from congregate shelters. Funding for the project includes a $1 million grant from the Veteran’s Administration as well as funds allocated by both the City of Missoula and Missoula County.
I look forward to releasing more details as we finalize a timeline for renovation. Currently, we are entering into the design phase of this plan. The Poverello Center is the best purchaser for the property, as the staff are committed to ensuring the individuals who currently live there find housing.
We are deeply committed to making sure all residents are relocated into housing. Because there are federal dollars associated with this project, we are required by federal law to have robust relocation protocols and assistance available to all current tenants.
This project furthers our mission to provide food, shelter, help and hope to all who ask. We are extremely grateful for our partnerships with the Veterans Administration, the City of Missoula, and Missoula County in helping make this opportunity possible.
