VOLUNTEER

The Poverello Center relies heavily on volunteers to provide essential services to clients. Volunteers work in a variety of capacities at the downtown emergency shelter as well as at the Joseph Residence (transitional housing for families) and the Valor House (transitional housing for veterans). In 2010, Poverello Center volunteers donated more than 8,800 hours of service and covered more than 1,600 volunteer shifts at each of the three sites. These contributions are invaluable to the organization!

There are numerous volunteer opportunities at the Poverello Center, including meal prep, meal serving, and working in our food pantry. Volunteers may also teach classes, manage the staff office, and become a member of the Homeless Outreach Team.

There is no time commitment required of volunteers, however many people choose to pick up a regular shift on a weekly or monthly basis.

If you would like to volunteer at the Poverello center please fill out an online application. All volunteers must attend an orientation prior to the start of their service. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER? FILL OUT A VOLUNTEER APPLICATION ONLINE

In addition to on-site volunteering, there are many ways to learn more, get involved, and further the Pov’s mission. Below are a couple of ideas:

  • Organize a food, toiletry, or penny drive
  • Donate gifts for clients over the holidays
  • Attend a Pov event
  • Invite the Pov to do outreach at your church, school, or community group
  • Donate to the Real Change/Spare Change Program
  • Donate to United Way of Missoula County

Internships and Service Learning
The Pov has numerous partnerships with colleges and universities to provide placements for students in professional programs.

The Pov also employs members from the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Please contact Eran Fowler-Pehan, Interim Executive Director, about these specific opportunities.
